A 21st-Century School
Project-based learning is our main method of delivering instruction. Projects are developed around essential questions, linked to real world situations, and worked on by groups of students who then present their findings to a panel of experts for feedback. Student development is not only measured in terms of curricular (content) literacy, but also written and oral communication, work ethic, collaboration, critical thinking, technology, and college/career preparation. Special attention is paid to school culture. Because we are designed to be a small school, students and staff come to know each other well and strong relationships are fostered. New Tech is a place where trust, respect, and responsibility become part of the Knights' Code. While there is 1:1 computing capability in every classroom, technology is not an end, but a means to draw students into greater learning.
WNT has had three homes since its inception in 2007. During our first year, we were housed on the campus of Vance-Granville Community College. Our second and third years took place on the campus of Hawkins School on West Franklin Street in Warrenton. Near the end of our fourth year, we finally took up residence in our wonderful new building!
